eminem recovery Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010

Hip Hop had a very good 2010 with a lot of highly anticipated albums hitting stores and a website near you…  While some albums did as well as expected, some just simply missed the mark.  Here is our list of the Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010!

10. im not a human being Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Lil Wayne – I’m Not A Human Being
I’ve always been a huge [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil Wayne[/lastfm] fan, unfortunately I have not been one as of late.  While this album is decent at best, with everything Lil Wayne has gone through this year, the anticipation of this album was huge.  No year would be complete without a release from Wayne!  Still, I’m extremely looking forward to ‘Tha Carter IV’.

9. sir luscious left foot Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Big Boi[/lastfm] came out in usual Big Boi successfully taking the genre to the edge, yet staying true to it.  The album, while filled with catchy beats and hooks, ultimately is missing something.  The something is Andre 3000… where’s the new [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Outkast[/lastfm] album?!

8. revolutions per minute Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Reflection Eternal – Revolutions Per Minute
This album was 10 years of patiently waiting and as one would expect when [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Talib Kweli[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Hi -Tek[/lastfm] form like Voltron you know you got some good music coming your way, Revolutions Per Minute is the result.  No one will be creating dances off of any of these songs, which is probably why I like it!

7. pink friday Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm] hit the hip hop stage like a Tasmanian devil!  She had an insane amount of features and killed it on every single one.   She took the stage at LDS 12 in August and had one of the most anticipated albums of the year.  An album that shut up even the biggest of doubters that labeled Nicki as a “fad”.

6. distantrelatives Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Nas + Damian Marley – Distant Relatives
There is no denying that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nas[/lastfm] has been suffering from a serious case of mediocrity lately.  His beats for the most have definitely done him no favors, even at times seem to leave him hanging.  This of course has been remedied, at least temporarily, on this collaboration with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Damian Marley[/lastfm].  The success of this album is due to the fact that the duo work off of each other so well.

5. adventures of bobby ray Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 B.o.B. – The Adventures of Bobby Ray
One of the biggest releases this year for me.  [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]B.o.B.[/lastfm] comes incredibly strong in his debut with great beats, strong lyrical content and of course a monster hit in ‘Airplanes‘.   Looking forward to what Bobby has in store for us next.

4. teflon don Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Rick Ross – Teflon Don
Many say The Boss is on a continual path of lyrical improvement with every release and it’s hard for me to disagree.  Who can deny the monster success of songs like BMF and Aston Martin Music and there was a time that I couldn’t scroll through my facebook feed and not catch a quote from a [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rick Ross[/lastfm] song.  As much as I hate music quotes as Facebook status’, I was even a little bit impressed.  Oh, and he killed it at LDS 12 as well…

3. thank me later Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Drake – Thank Me Later
Ok, do I really need to justify this?  Some would argue that it should #1 and while I can see that side of the debate, I think it’s definitely a top 3 album of the year.  The hip hop phenom from our neighbors to the north continued to get the ladies in a teenage heart throb kind of frenzy and the fellas to bob their heads along with his eloquent flows.  Obviously one of the most anticipated albums of the year and it did not disappoint.  The unique sound of this album was innovative yet massively successful, a rarity in hip hop for sure.

2. my beautiful dark twisted fantasy Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye West[/lastfm] has had one crazy year.  Catching huge backlash on the Taylor VMA incident he was able to overcome the scrutiny and get back to the music.  His G.O.O.D. Friday features had fans sitting on his website continually hitting refresh,  just waiting for what Mr. West had in store.  He also took Twitter by storm with some of the best tweets I’ve read all year, good enough for a parody with kids reenacting them!  You got to respect the artistic nature of the album,  it acted as the sound track to his short film entitled ‘Runaway‘ and is definitely his most meticulously crafted album yet.  It’s designed to be listened to from front to back and if listened to carefully enough will take you on an epic journey of love and loss.

1. recovery Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2010 Eminem – Recovery
The #1 album of the year by far is the return of the Real Slim Shady!   It’s so good to hear an album that is not centered around his mom or Kim, I really couldn’t take another one of those! A really rough few years led [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eminem[/lastfm] down a path of pills, drugs and a near death experience, but even that couldn’t stop him.  He simply raised both middle fingers to his demons, got himself right and after a couple of, mediocre at best albums, Slim comes back with a vengeance.  In his lead single ‘Not Afraid‘, Em openly admits his problems with drugs and depression, addresses them and even offers a helping hand to those that have fallen victim to the same.  The song sets the tone of what to expect on the album.   However, the album isn’t without the classic Slim Shady tracks, such as White Trash Party (or WTP), that show him just having fun with his music.  One of the best tracks on album is definitely 25 to Life, the raw emotion in his voice on this track is incredibly powerful.   Without a doubt this was one of the most anticipate albums of the year, however, I think cautiously anticipate because we didn’t know what Eminem was going to show up.  This album did not disappoint.
