Dear Scott:
I am an assistant manager where I work and have been in on some meetings where decisions have been about upcoming layoffs. Not only have several nervous coworkers ask me about what I know because they see me in those meetings, but my girlfriend who works there too, has asked. It is killing to have to lie to everybody, telling them that I don’t know anything. But the worst of it, I know my girlfriend’s job is going to be eliminated too. I risk losing my own job if I say anything, but lying to my girlfriend could have serious repercussions. It feels like I have to choose between my job and my girlfriend. Anyone with advice?
